I printed out a bunch of mailing labels to stick onto our postcards promoting our LA screening at Laemmle’s Sunset 5 on Friday, April 18th. I don’t know if you have ever put 2,500 mailing labels on to postcards, but it’s really fun.

My skin is about three inches thicker after getting dissed so many times trying to hand them to folks. I did end up handing out around 2200 cards and many of the people were really, really receptive. A few people even insisted that they saw me on HRTV that morning, but I told them that they were mistaken…. I was the guy spinning the sign on the corner of Hollywood and Vine.

The highlight of the day was handing one to Mr. Mel Brooks!

I was tempted to yell out a line from “Blazing Saddles” or…

But instead I just told him that he had to see “The First Saturday in May” which opens Friday, April 18th. Mel, I’m leaving a seat at will call for you. . . .

Congrats to Colonel John and Eoin Harty for the big win. Thanks to Doug O’Neill, Dan Hendricks, Chris Quinn, Allen Gutterman and the HRTV staff for helping to get the word out. We appreciate the support. Oh, and Dan Hendrick’s Daytona won another graded stakes race. Congrats Dan! Good luck in Arkansas.

    1. fav Mel Brooks lines:

“you look like the Piss Boy”
“and you look like a bucket of sh*t!”

    2. Looking forward to seeing your movie–I’m making a special trip to West Hollywood on Friday!

    3. OK, so I didn’t exactly label 2200 postcards, but I did label and mail about 200 for Baltimore to put in my fav downtown watering holes (my peeps ROCK in Bmore! Not so much here in “Austin-tacious”.) Am thinking Baltimore drunks will be way more receptive than those here.

We’ll be thinking about you all on Derby Day. — Can you humor “Henn. Bros. Team TX” and toss in a plug for our boys Adriano and Graham Motion. It’s been almost 13 yrs. since Graham’s seen a Derby, and Adriano was looking pretty spiff during this week’s breezes. Ya never know what he might pull on Big Brown! (go to “Sue’s News” on the Herringswell Stable’s website for some great pics).

Cheers guys! See ya’ll at Preakness!
